I am from Berens River, MB of Anishinaabe and Cree ancestry. We were taught Ojibway as our first language and I speak it fluently. We have 2 sons and 5 grandchildren who live in Wpg. On my maternal side my grandfather’s Grandfather Chief Jacob Berens was the first Chief to signed Treaty 5 in Berens River. On my paternal side my grandmother’s Grandfather Angus McKay was the first Indian Agent of Berens River.

Darrell “Gav” Chippeway has a BA in the Humanities from the University of Winnipeg. Gav is a writer and a researcher and 2Spirit. S(h)e identifies as Agookwe (Hidden Woman). Gav offers Tabacco to Creator every day and smudges every evening to honour the life and spirit of his mother. Gav grew up in the suburbs of Winnipeg and is Metis, Ojibwe & Cree (FN). Gav loves reading and believes in, and is always hopeful for, goodness.
